The Institute of Education Sciences will host its Fifth Annual IES Research Conference at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The theme for this year's conference is Connecting Research, Policy and Practice.
A block of rooms has been reserved at a special conference rate of $226.00 per night (plus all applicable taxes). Program Information
Day 1: Monday, June 28, 2010
The conference will begin with on-site registration and check-in from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and will include afternoon meetings conducted by IES program officers. A welcome reception and the first poster session scheduled for the conference will follow these meetings. Conference attendees will be able to view all poster presentations, which will feature the research of predoctoral fellows, postdoctoral fellows, grant and contract awardees, and expert data users.
Day 2: Tuesday, June 29, 2010
The second day of the conference will begin with on-site registration, check-in, and an opening plenary session. Concurrent panel sessions featuring presentations by IES grantees and contractors, as well as other invited speakers, will follow these events. A plated lunch with a plenary speaker will follow the morning sessions. The afternoon agenda will continue with the second poster session, followed by concurrent panel sessions, and will conclude with the third and final poster session scheduled for the conference. In addition to the scheduled poster sessions, attendees will be able to view all poster presentations featuring the research of predoctoral fellows, postdoctoral fellows, grant and contract awardees, and expert data users from 9:00 a.m.-6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Day 3: Wednesday, June 30, 2010
The final day of the conference will open with concurrent panel sessions, followed by another round of concurrent panel sessions. The conference will adjourn at 1:00 p.m. Posters will be available for viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Air Transportation
Three airports serve the Washington, DC, area: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). DCA is a 15-minute drive from the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center and is the most conveniently located of the three.
Grayhound Transportation
Train arrivals are conducted through Union Station.
The average one-way taxi fares to/from each of the airports/Union Station and the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center are approximately as follows:
- DCA: $20.00 to $25.00
- IAD: $60.00 to $65.00
- BWI: $70.00 to $75.00
- Union Station: $25.00 to $28.00
Shuttle Service
The Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center offers a shuttle service between the hotel and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and between the hotel and Union Station. Rates are as follows:
- DCA: $18.00/person one way; $32.00/person round trip (reservations recommended; departs every 20 minutes 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.); $78 for exclusive van service, booked in advance
- Union Station: $13.00/person one way; $20/person round trip; $49.00/person for 3-day pass (loops between Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, Union Station, and The Old Post Office; continuous service 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.)

Metrorail
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrorail system is a convenient way to travel within and around the DC area. The Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center offers a shuttle service to two stops on the metro line: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Union Station. Metrobus
The Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center is connected to the DC metro area by the WMATA Metrobus system via the National Harbor Line. Visitors can take the NH-1 bus to the Branch Avenue metro stop on the green line, from which they can travel to all areas of the city. A bus timetable can be found here.
Water Taxi
Potomac Riverboat Company's water taxis depart regularly from the pier of the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, offering convenient transportation to Old Town Alexandria, Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, and the historic neighborhood of Georgetown.
