Two series of REL reports are produced from short-term Fast Response Projects conduced by the regional educational laboratories —
- Issues & Answers is part on an ongoing series of reports from short-term Fast Response Projects conducted by the regional educational laboratories on current education issues of importance at local, state, and regional levels. Topics for these reports change to reflect new issues, as identified through regional laboratory outreach and requests for assistance, primarily from policymakers and educators at state and local levels. These reports offer an in-depth examination of a pressing education issue and undergo a rigorous peer review process to ensure they meet the Institute of Education Sciences standards for scientifically valid research. Reports are produced within six to no more than twelve months.
- REL Technical Briefs is another REL report series from Fast Response Projects that helps educators obtain evidence-based answers to their specific requests for information on education issues. REL Technical Briefs offer highly targeted responses across a variety of subjects, from reviews of particular studies or groups of studies on No Child Left Behind Act implementation issues, to compilations or quick summaries of state or local education agency data, appraisals of particular instruments or tools, and very short updates of Issues & Answers reports. REL Technical Briefs go through an expedited peer review to ensure that they meet IES standards for scientifically valid research, while at the same time, providing a very rapid response to an urgent request.
