Assessing the Effects of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act on Students Who Test Above Proficient

Region:
Appalachia
Abstract:
Officials throughout our region have noted a concern about potential side effects of the emphasis on raising scores of students who test below proficient without attending to the needs of other students. Many states have made it a priority to ensure that closing achievement gaps do not result in lowering expectations for children already performing at high levels. This project will examine the extent to which schools successful in increasing the percent testing proficient are equally successful in increasing the percent testing advanced, and how the rate of progress in increasing the percent proficient relates to the rate of progress in increasing the percent advanced.
