Virginia Middle School Alliance, REL Appalachia
The Virginia Middle School Alliance is aimed at increasing middle school's capacity to use data to inform instructional decision-making and improve student outcomes. This alliance will focus on building middle school educators' capacity to identify struggling students who need additional support, as well as selecting, implementing, and monitoring interventions to support those students.
Research Questions:
- Do Virginia middle schools have the data elements necessary to develop indicators for a middle school early warning system?
- How do Virginia middle school practitioners who work in selected schools that do not have an early warning system use data to improve instructional practice and support student learning?
- What are the supports and barriers to using data to inform practice while working in select Virginia middle schools that do not use a formal EWS?
- How do Virginia middle school practitioners who work in selected schools that do not have an early warning system use data to improve instructional practice and support student learning?
- What types of resources or supports are needed to implement an EWS in Virginia middle schools in different stages of data use readiness?
