REL Central understands that educators in this predominately rural region need support and guidance to meet the needs of diverse learners. Therefore, the Laboratory's work addresses five educational needs that have been ranked as priorities by region's educators:

1. Understanding and implementing research-based classroom practices.
2. Increasing teacher recruitment and retention, particularly in rural areas.
3. Preparing high school students for the workforce or post-secondary education.
4. Using technology to enhance classroom instruction.
5. Increasing the number of highly qualified teachers.
