Barbara Foorman, Ph.D.

Barbara Foorman, Ph.D., is the Francis Eppes Professor of Education and Director of the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University. During 2005, Dr. Foorman served as the Commissioner of Education Research in the Institute of Education Sciences in the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Foorman was previously Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Houston and Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Academic and Reading Skills at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Author of over 100 publications in the area of reading and language development, Dr. Foorman serves on editorial boards of several journals, national advisory and consensus committees on reading, and has been principal investigator of federally-funded grants concerning early reading interventions, scaling assessment-driven instruction, and literacy development in Spanish-speaking children. In addition, Dr. Foorman has been actively involved in outreach to schools and the general public.
