Regional Needs
Like many regions, states in the Southwest are diverse in many ways, consisting of bustling cities and rural expanses. Some children in the region have been displaced from Hurricane Katrina and many students are located in rural or border regions. The Lab will meet the region's diverse needs such as:
- Measuring the effectiveness of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) in English Language Learners.
- Conducting alignment studies of state and NAEP Science and Math standards and assessment specifications.
- Evaluating alternative assessments for special education.
- Reviewing the evidence on teacher professional development and student achievement.
- Evaluating formative and diagnostic assessment programs.
- Reviewing Rural Definitions and the Implications for Educational Policies and Practices.
