Director, REL WestDr. Gary D. Estes
Dr. Estes' efforts in the current REL work will concentrate on overseeing production of new information from a set of multiyear research studies and multiple fast response studies or projects. In addition to production of new knowledge, the REL work will also be designed to increase the use of empirical evidence in education policies and practices. Dr. Estes has served as a REL director for several years and has actively participated in the REL network system. He served as chair of the REL directors' cross-laboratory group and for several years was the REL directors' designated lead for collecting and reporting indicator data. Dr. Estes is also WestEd's Chief Program Officer where he oversees the management and quality of a multi-million dollar portfolio of work that includes research studies, development of research-based interventions, dissemination, and technical assistance. He actively seeks to implement strategies that leverage work across WestEd programs and contracts to maximize their benefits and efficiency.
