On Monday July 21, 2014, the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education sponsored a What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) webinar for researchers. The webinar focused on how to design strong studies which test the effectiveness of interventions in schools and classrooms. This webinar drew on WWC resources to explain how to design and execute strong studies, with specific examples for studying interventions targeting teachers. The presentation included guidance on:

  • How to develop strong study designs
  • Ways to identify and maintain a research sample
  • How to collect all necessary data
  • How to conduct analysis so that the study is consistent with WWC’s rigorous design standards
  • Strategies to prevent or address some of the common pitfalls in effectiveness research
