Title:  Current Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary Education: School Year 2003-04
Description: This publication contains data on current expenditures, by state, for public elementary and secondary education for school year 2003-04. It also reports median current expenditure per student by state and by school districts and current expenditures per student by districts at the 5th and 95th percentile. Current expenditures for public elementary and secondary education totaled $403 billion in 2003-04. This is a 4.1 percent increase from the previous year in unadjusted dollars and a 1.8 percent increase in constant dollars. The percentage of current expenditures spent on instruction and instruction-related activities was 66.1 percent in 2003-04 for the nation as a whole. The percentage of current expenditures spent on instruction and instruction-related activities in the 50 states ranged from 60.5 percent in Oklahoma to 71.2 percent in New York.
