October 22, 2015

Time: 2:30 – 4:00 PM

Location: Webinar

Description: In this event, two nationally known presenters will share practical, research-based information about early mathematics learning with clear implications for instructional practice. The event is designed to instill key concepts of early math instruction by first introducing them, then digging deeper into how they fit within the context of CCSS math instruction, and finally allowing participants to interact with available tools for instruction. Presenters will invite participants to consider how the information and recommendations shared will influence not only PreK through grade 2 instruction but also other grade levels.

This online event is modeled after our September 18th in-person event on the same topic. It is open to educators nationwide who are interested in gaining tools for early mathematics instruction.

Attendees will learn about:

  1. Practical, evidence-based recommendations for teaching math to children ages 3–5;
  2. How these practices relate to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mathematics (including both the content standards and Standards for Mathematical Practice), especially for Grade K–2; and
  3. How these mathematical foundations support the success of students in later elementary and middle school grades.

Research Alliance: Silicon Valley Research Alliance

Audience: The primary audience for this event is teachers, coaches, and district and school administrators focusing on PreKindergarten (PreK) to grade 2 math instruction. It is open, however, to all PreK-12 educators interested in what young students need to know and understand in their early years of mathematics learning to meet with success with the Common Core State Standards in grades K–12.
