Research supports the positive impact of some learning games on student academic achievement; however, many educators lack information on what games algin to standards for a particular course and on how to best integrate games into practice. In this project, the research team will fully develop an online digital library to host early literacy games and provide educators key information to best integrate games for in-class and remote instruction.

This project team will develop a prototype of a digital library to host research-based early literacy games. The library will include playlists that organize content by topics and provide resources to integrate games into practice for use in classrooms and remotely.

Even as American students’ reading scores continue to decline, the positive impact of media on learning has been consistently supported by research.

In this project, the team will create Reading Roots II: Reading "Between the Lions," a multimedia classroom intervention that uses systematically targeted videos and game-like technology-assisted partner practice activities to personalize literacy education for grade 1 students.

In previous research and development, researchers developed the Reading Roots, a non-technology delivered intervention for grade school that alternates teacher- delivered instruction with activities where children practice content and skills while working with a peer partner.

In this project, the team developed and tested the promise of a multimedia platform, The Lightning Squad, to guide teachers in providing tutoring sessions to small groups of struggling readers. Grade 3 students who read below grade level are more likely to drop out of high school than peers who read at grade level.
