About

Lauren Scher leads the partnership focused on evidence to refine and implement a revised teacher evaluation system. Dr. Scher has extensive experience in technical assistance, building partnerships, and engaging in high-quality, peer-reviewed research. She has a strong understanding of the challenges LEAs and SEAs face in recruiting, retaining, and supporting a strong teacher workforce. Throughout her career, she has led or overseen the development of numerous technical support products, including webinars, tip sheets, and guidance documents. Dr. Scher also brings experience working closely with partners to conduct and use research. Dr. Scher can be contacted at RELMidAtlantic@mathematica.org.

An Experimental Evaluation of the Impact of HOME WORKS! The Teacher Home Visit Program

The increasing popularity of teacher home visit programs suggests that many educators believe home visits can make a difference in improving school attendance and student achievement outcomes. This study will evaluate the effects of HomeWorks! (HW!), a teacher home visit program that has operated in the greater St. Louis area and surrounding communities since 2007, using a cluster randomized control trial (RCT) design.
