Career Development Opportunities in Washington, DC Public Schools

In this project, the researchers will explore career development opportunities (CDOs) for middle and high school students in Washington, D.C. A Lottery-Based Efficacy Study of the District of Columbia Public Prekindergarten Program

While the evidence on short- and longer-term prekindergarten efficacy has grown in recent years, nearly all existing research comes from studies of programs for 4-year-olds. Increasing policy interest in programs for 3-year-olds, persistent disparities in access, and theories and evidence from economics, neuroscience, and developmental psychology highlight the need for new research so that policymakers, practitioners, and the public can make informed choices about investments in children's s...

Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2011 (NCLB), a school is only accountable for a student's performance if that student has attended that school for a certain number of days and states are required to define that time,...

Estimating Relationships in NAEP

This project will compare and contrast the various methods that have been used to control for statistical bias in analyses of the NAEP data, and identify the ways and extent to which different methods contribute to differences in substantive findings. The study will also explore the use of instrumental variable [IV] models for controlling bias. IV models are common in econometric analysis, but have rarely been applied to the NAEP data.

Measuring Classroom Instruction using NAEP

This project will identify higher order instructional approaches in the NAEP teacher data which the literature suggests are related to standards-based educational reform. The project will develop measurement scales for the instructional processes and attempt to equate these scales across subject areas (math, reading and science), grade levels (fourth and eighth grade) and across several time points between 1994 and 2000.
