This project will develop a prototype of an online coding game to prepare middle and high school students for success in postsecondary education and career pathways in computer science The prototype will include a visual tool to support students move from two-dimensional to three-dimensional thinking, lesson plans for teachers, and video tutorials and examples for students and teachers. At the end of Phase I, in a pilot study with 30 high school students, the researchers will examine whether the prototype functions as planned, if educators can integrate the game within standard practice, and if the game shows promise for improving student attitudes about and skills related to coding.
