Title: Postdoctoral Fellowships in Progress Monitoring in Reading and Mathematics
Center: NCER Year: 2008
Principal Investigator: Tindal, Gerald Awardee: University of Oregon
Program: Postdoctoral Research Training Program in the Education Sciences      [Program Details]
Award Period: 4 years Award Amount: $608,892
Type: Training Award Number: R305B080004
Description:

This postdoctoral fellowship program trained five fellows to conduct research on in measurement tools used to document progress with learning to read and solve mathematics problems in U.S. elementary and middle schools. Fellows were trained in several aspects of measurement development and research to develop formative measurement systems that are universally designed (accessible to all) and diagnostically sensitive. Three areas were targeted in the training program: fellows learned how to develop progress monitoring as well as benchmarking and large-scale assessments in reading and mathematics; conducted research and training on using data to improve reading and math performance in K-12 school settings; and participated in teaching, research, and service to become the next generation of leaders with expertise in measurement.
