DESCRIPTION:Objective: The National Center for Special Education Research (
 NCSER) in the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department

  Summer Research Training Institute on Single-Case Intervention Research D

 s and Selection Criteria for Training Institute Fellows:    Applicants mus
 t have a doctoral degree (e.g.\, Ph.D.\, Psy.D.\, Ed.D.) and experience in
  conducting research relevant to education in the United States.   Applica
 nts must be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States\, or mu
 st have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residenc
 e (i.e.\, possess a currently valid Alien Registration Receipt Card I-551\
 , or other legal verification of such status).  Preference will be given t
 o individuals who (a) have demonstrated their ability to conduct independe
 nt intervention research\, (b) are currently employed in a setting in whic
 h conducting research relevant to education is part of their regular respo
 nsibilities\, (c) are employed in a setting where teaching single-case met
 hods is part of their responsibilities\, and (d) can demonstrate that they
  have a need for the knowledge and skills addressed in the Training Instit

DESCRIPTION:Objective: The National Center for Special Education Research (
 NCSER) in the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department
  of Education\, in conjunction with the University of Oregon\, announces a
  Summer Research Training Institute on Single-Case Intervention Research D
 esign and Analysis\, to increase the national capacity of education resear
 chers to conduct methodologically rigorous single-case intervention studie
 s.  This one week Training Institute will be held at the Best Western Plus
  InnTowner near the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Classro
 om instruction will take place\, and Institute participants will be housed
 \, at the Western Plus InnTowner in downtown Madison\, WI.   Application m

 . EST.  Course Content: The course sessions will provide education researc
 hers with intensive training in the skills required to plan\, design\, imp
 lement\, analyze\, and interpret single-case intervention studies. The Ins
 titute will focus on intervention research in which the “cases” consis
 t of either individual participants or clustered educational units (e.g.\,
  small groups\, classrooms\, schools).    The course will enable participa
 nts to:    Describe the logic and principles underlying scientifically cre
 dible single-case intervention research and their advantages for making ca
 usal inferences about intervention effects.  Understand the situations and
  conditions for which single-case intervention research is applicable.  Fa
 miliarize themselves with both traditional single-case designs and recent 
 advances that improve the designs' scientific merit.    Acquire knowledge 
 about both visual and statistical techniques for aggregating and analyzing
  the data from single-case intervention investigations.  Recognize the str
 engths\, limitations\, and yet-to-be resolved issues associated with singl
 e-case intervention research.  Understand how to transition from single-ca
 se designs to traditional “group” designs\, and how single-case resear
 ch can complement group designs.   Participate in small-group projects to 
 collectively develop research proposals for conducting a scientifically cr
 edible single-case intervention investigation.     Eligibility Requirement
 s and Selection Criteria for Training Institute Fellows:    Applicants mus
 t have a doctoral degree (e.g.\, Ph.D.\, Psy.D.\, Ed.D.) and experience in
  conducting research relevant to education in the United States.   Applica
 nts must be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States\, or mu
 st have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residenc
 e (i.e.\, possess a currently valid Alien Registration Receipt Card I-551\
 , or other legal verification of such status).  Preference will be given t
 o individuals who (a) have demonstrated their ability to conduct independe
 nt intervention research\, (b) are currently employed in a setting in whic
 h conducting research relevant to education is part of their regular respo
 nsibilities\, (c) are employed in a setting where teaching single-case met
 hods is part of their responsibilities\, and (d) can demonstrate that they
  have a need for the knowledge and skills addressed in the Training Instit
 ute. Each application will be evaluated on its own merits. If more than 35
  meritorious applications are received\, other criteria such as disciplina
 ry\, geographical\, and institutional diversity will be taken into account
 .  Applicants must have familiarity with basic statistical methods and mus
 t be experienced in using personal computers and statistical computer pack
 ages. The Training Institute will include “hands on” data-analysis ses
 sions. Some experience with SPSS (or other statistical software) procedure
 s\, including conducting graphical and standard statistical analyses (e.g.
 \, frequency and scatter diagrams\, cross-tabulations\, analysis of varian
 ce\, regression analyses)\, is expected.     Women\, minorities\, and indi
