Since 2011 IES has supported 25 grants to provide training for current education researchers to maintain and enhance their research and analysis skills to conduct research that is rigorous, relevant, and accessible to education stakeholders. For example, IES has funded education and special education methods training programs focused on single-case design, meta-analyses, Bayesian methods, implementation science and many more! Several methods training grants are currently active and planning future training opportunities. For more information on these upcoming workshops or trainings, check out the Events webpage on the IES website.

The following grants will be hosting training workshops in the summer of 2026 and are currently accepting applications:

  • Data Science for Education (DS4EDU): Training is a 1-year program that is mostly remote but involves a 1-week in-person workshop. The deadline to apply is May 13, 2026.
  • Summer Research Training Institute on Cluster-Randomized Trials: The in-person training will take place July 6-16, 2026. The deadline to apply is April 17, 2026.

Beyond training workshops, these grants have also produced resources that can be accessed by the public. So, even if you can’t participate in the training workshops, you can take advantage of these resources to enhance your own methods skills. For example, the following are just some (but not all) of the training programs that have made resources available on their websites:

  • Applied Mixture Modeling Training Workshops and Resources for Education Researchers: Methods videos available here.
  • A Research Institute for Implementation Science in Education (RIISE) to Address the "Last Mile" in Education: Modules on implementation science and strategies available here.
  • Comprehensive Program for Adaptive Interventions Training in Education Sciences (CATIE): Online courses, research briefs, and other resources available here.
  • IES Methods Training in Cost-Effectiveness and Economic Evaluation: Methods briefs and templates for designing cost studies available here.
  • Innovation Science for Education Analytics (ISEA): Webinar session slides from past training programs available here and here.
  • Meta-Analysis Training Institute (MATI): Resources for learning R and conducting evidence syntheses available here.
  • Summer Research Training Institute on Cluster-Randomized Trials: Online tools, presentations, short courses, and other resources available here.
  • Training Institute in Advanced Single-Case Research Design and Analysis: Statistical tools and other resources available here.

We encourage you to sign up for the IES Newsflash so you can stay up to date on training opportunities and other IES products and news.
