About this event

Time: 4:15 p.m.-5:30 p.m. ET

Location: Strategic Data Project Annual Convening 2024, Boston, MA

Description: Many communities across the country are working to confront inequities that permeate all aspects of our systems, including education. These efforts often involve frank and challenging conversations about past discrimination, ongoing inequities, and both individual and organizational change needed to achieve equity. REL Midwest is working with schools in Ohio to develop and refine an equity audit approach that advances data-informed equity conversations to create safe and supportive school environments for all students. This session will introduce the Making Equitable Schools Audit (MESA) approach, engage participants in a simulation activity, review tips and best practices for summarizing data to promote action, and discuss how to navigate difficult discussions about equity data.

Speakers:

  • Nora Gannon-Slater, PhD, Senior Researcher, REL Midwest
  • Melissa Yisak, Senior Researcher, REL Midwest
  • Jessie Kerr-Vanderslice, Senior Technical Assistance Consultant, REL Midwest
  • Hannah Dunn-Grandpre, Researcher, REL Midwest
