Description: This in-person bridge event, co-hosted by Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) 1 and REL Midwest, focused on culturally responsive practices that show promise in closing achievement gaps and the research that supports these practices. The event included an overview of achievement gaps in Wisconsin from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction staff and an introduction to the Midwest Achievement Gap Research Alliance from Madeline Hafner, Ph.D., of the Minority Student Achievement Network, and Deb Gurke, Ph.D., of REL Midwest. A session led by the Wisconsin Response to Intervention (RtI) Center and Wisconsin Information System for Education walked participants through analyzing district data on disproportionality using a risk ratio approach. Staff from the Wisconsin RtI Center also led a session on promising culturally responsive practices, and Kyle Fagan of REL Midwest discussed the research literature on research-based practices to close achievement gaps. The event included opportunities for participants to reflect on existing work and make plans for integrating culturally responsive practices in their districts and classrooms.
