Description: The first New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) Forum on Connecting Research, Policy, and Practice will bring together researchers and educators to strengthen research partnerships in New York City. Co-sponsored with REL Northeast & Islands, this one-day event will provide a forum for educators and researchers to share their experiences doing research in and about NYC public schools, with a focus on equity and using research evidence to inform policy and practice.
The daylong conference will include a keynote speaker, breakout sessions, and opportunities for networking. Keynote speaker Dr. Edward Fergus will use his own work with NYCDOE on disproportionality as a case study for illustrating how partnerships with central office and school-based staff have informed and strengthened his research and impacted practitioners to improve equity.
Audience: This event is designed for internal NYCDOE researchers and analysts, as well as researchers who work in partnership with the NYCDOE. Policymakers, central office and field support staff at NYCDOE, and educators participating in research partnerships at NYCDOE interested in using research evidence; partners in collaborative NYCDOE projects that have a research component; and researchers who would like to learn more about working in partnership with NYCDOE may also be interested in attending.
