About this event

The National Center for Education Statistics collects data on crime, violence, and safety in U.S. public schools through the School Survey on Crime and Safety (SSOCS). This First Look report presents findings from the 2017–18 administration of the SSOCS, covering topics such as the prevalence of violent and nonviolent crimes occurring in schools, practices and programs schools have implemented to promote school safety, frequency of disciplinary problems such as bullying and harassment, types of disciplinary actions taken by schools, presence and activities of school security staff, availability of mental health services, and staff training.
