National Indian Education Study

This report, National Indian Education Study, Part II: The Educational Experiences of Fourth- and Eighth-Grade American Indian and Alaska Native Students (NCES 2007-454), presents results from a national survey conducted in 2005 that examined the educational experiences of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) students in grades 4 and 8. A nationally representative sample of AI/AN students, their teachers and school principals participated in Part II of the National Indian Education Study (NIES). Part I of the NIES, released on May 23rd, 2006, describes the performance of AI/AN students on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 2005 reading and mathematics assessments. Performance results from Part I are not linked to the survey findings from Part II. Such association will be possible in future data collection scheduled for 2007.
