About this event
National samples of 213,100 fourth-graders and 168,200 eighth-graders participated in the 2011 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in reading. Students responded to questions designed to measure their reading comprehension across two types of texts: literary and informational. Performance results are presented in the form of NAEP scale scores and percentages of students at the Basic, Proficient, and Advanced achievement levels at both the national and state levels. The report also includes information about the performance of different student groups and gap comparisons by gender and race/ethnicity. Comparisons are made between 2011 results and those from previous assessments in: 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009.
