The Nation's Report Card: Writing 2011 (NCES 2012-470)

NAEP administered the first computer-based assessment in writing in 2011 to national samples of eighth and twelfth graders. The assessment tasks, which were presented in multimedia formats, required students to write for several purposes and communicate to different audiences. Writing 2011 is designed to provide information about the writing skills of students through the completion of computer-based tasks. In 2011, the study was administered to students at grades 8 and 12 as part of the 2011 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).
