The National Center for Education Statistics will release Reading Achievement of U.S. Fourth-Grade Students in an International Context: First Look at the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and ePIRLS 2016. 2016 marks the fourth administration of PIRLS to U.S. students (2001, 2006, and 2011) and the first administration of ePIRLS.
This report provides the first look at U.S. performance on the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and ePIRLS 2016. The report examines the performance of U.S. fourth-graders on measures of reading literacy in international context. The assessment is based on data from a U.S. sample of fourth-graders and international data from 57 other countries and education systems.
