Through a series of virtual coaching sessions, REL Southwest is building the capacity of Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) staff to conduct a formative evaluation of the Arkansas Initiative for Instructional Materials (AIIM). In this session, REL Southwest reviewed the project objectives, the logic model, and research questions from session 1. Best practices for survey content development were discussed, including recommendations for writing and adapting high-quality survey items. REL Southwest provided a crosswalk template with the research questions and had ADE identify topics and constructs needed to answer each question. REL Southwest also worked with ADE to review existing surveys that have items that could be adapted for their survey and to write new items for topics/constructs for which there are no aligned existing items.
