Description: The National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics Annual Conference focuses on important issues for leaders in mathematics education. The 2021 NCSM conference featured a virtual component, with a session on outcomes from a REL Appalachia study of mathematics coursetaking pathways of students who completed Algebra I in grades 7-9 in Virginia, comparing outcomes for students who achieved the same proficiency levels on their state mathematics assessment in grade 5. The session explores how pathways differ for various student populations as well as the implications for policy and practice.
