On August 29, 2023, REL West will meet with partners at Grand County School District (GCSD) and San Juan County School District (SJSD) to kick off the Improving Academic Outcomes for Multilingual Students in Rural Southeast Utah partnership. During session 1, participants will learn about PLCs from research and a prior project with Grand CSD Assessing Math Needs in Southeast Utah in relation to this planned project, gain a deeper understanding of the research on effective professional learning communities (PLCs) and ways these can support collective teacher action and reduce teacher isolation, discuss what PLC structures and/or other teacher collective actions currently exist, or are planned in each district, and develop a data collection timeline and process to inventory any formal or informal teacher collective action, as well as teacher perception of PLCs and teacher collective action via focus groups led by district staff.
