Description: The National Center for Education Statistics STATS-DC Data Conference convenes education researchers, policymakers, and data system managers and provides updates on federal and national activities affecting data collection and reporting. Sessions focus on approaches to collecting, reporting, and using education statistics.
During this session, REL Appalachia staff share results from the capacity-building collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), focused on identifying high-performing and high-growth schools in grade 3 reading and mathematics. Presenters describe using longitudinal data to fit multilevel models predicting school-level reading and math scores and their growth over time, and identifying schools that over- and under-perform relative to statistical predictions. Speakers discuss lessons learned for state education agency staff interested in strengthening their analytic capabilities as well as implications for those seeking to identify schools that were effective during the pandemic and schools in need of additional supports moving forward.
