Join REL Mid-Atlantic and the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) to explore how state education agencies can support school districts in recruiting a diverse educator workforce.

Research shows that all students benefit from having educators from a variety of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, and education outcomes improve for students of color who are taught by educators of the same race or ethnicity. To support all students across the state, NJDOE set a goal to hire more educators of color statewide by 2025.

This webinar will explain:

  • Why increasing educator diversity matters in New Jersey.
  • How REL Mid-Atlantic is supporting NJDOE through a multi-phased approach to building districts' capacity to make data-informed decisions and implement research-based hiring practices.
  • Lessons we learned along the way.

Presenters:

  • Melissa Petaccio, NJDOE
  • Eli Trenado, NJDOE
  • Dr. Jackie Peng, REL Mid-Atlantic
  • Sterling Grimes, REL Mid-Atlantic
  • Yvonne Allen, REL Mid-Atlantic
