Launched in 2024 through a collaboration between the University of Washington College of Education, the University of Washington eScience Institute and faculty from the University of Oregon, University of Maryland, and Vanderbilt University—with support from a 3-year grant from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES)—ISEA equips fellows to apply AI and data science to real-world K–12 challenges.
Each year, ISEA recruits 20 fellows—district technical staff, edtech professionals, and graduate students—who want hands-on training in AI/ML and education. The program blends 15 live online seminars (Jan–May 2026) with an in-person hackweek at the University of Washington (June 2026), where participants collaborate on applied projects connecting data science, AI tools, and K–12 education.
