About this event

What if every middle and high school math teacher had practical, research-backed professional development materials to help students succeed in algebra?

Join math experts, educators, and researchers for a session introducing a free professional learning resource: the Toolkit to Support Evidence-Based Algebra Instruction in Middle and High School. This easy-to-use toolkit features evidence-based strategies for algebra instruction and includes educator workbooks, facilitator guides, videos, and data tools to put those strategies into action.

Speakers:

  • Jasmine Forde, Toolkit Implementation Lead, REL Central
  • Riley Stone, Toolkit Development Team, REL Central
  • Josh Males, K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Specialist, Lincoln Public Schools, Nebraska
  • Marty Rover, District Math Coach, Delta County Joint District No. 50, Colorado
  • Jon Star, Professor and Faculty Co-Chair, Harvard Graduate School of Education

Together, they’ll share how educators can use this evidence-based professional development toolkit to improve their teaching of algebra to middle and high school students and set those students up for success in future math courses. The toolkit is designed for educators to use as part of a facilitated professional learning community and includes flexible resources to guide independent and collaborative learning to help teachers engage students in their algebra education.

By the end of the session, you will:

  • Understand how to use the toolkit to enhance algebra instruction and integrate key strategies into your current curriculum.
  • Be introduced to three evidence-based recommendations for strengthening your algebra instruction.
  • Hear from educators who have used the toolkit in their classrooms.
  • Gain ideas on how to introduce the toolkit as part of a professional learning community in your school or district next school year.
