In this two-day training event, REL Southwest staff led school leaders from two Oklahoma public school districts in learning about the Leading Early Childhood Achievement and Development (LEAD) professional learning series. The presenters defined play-based learning and made connections to the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Prekindergarten (preK) and Kindergarten, provided an overview of Oklahoma's Play to Learn Act, and led a discussion about high-quality teacher-student interactions. Participants were provided time to plan how they will introduce the LEAD professional learning series to the preK and kindergarten teachers on their campus, including scheduling time to complete the four asynchronous LEAD training modules, engaging in a community of practice (CoP) with teachers, and thinking ahead to implementation of classroom walk-throughs and other classroom-based activities that support the implementation of play-based learning instructional practices and high-quality teacher-student interactions.
