As part of a six-month project to revise mathematics standards for all grade levels, the Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) will join REL Northwest to discuss how the OPI team can use research to inform the new standards. To establish an understanding of existing research, REL Northwest will summarize literature related to math education. This will include topics such as instructional practices, cultural diversity, and different pathway models that determine when students can take different courses. After this review, REL Northwest will lead activity to interpret the data and conclude the meeting by opening a discussion about how OPI might apply the literature to its math standards
