COVID-19 has disrupted school accountability systems just as it has disrupted everything else about schooling. State education agency (SEA) staff need to understand the potential implications of the absence of key indicators on their accountability systems. They also need potential alternatives for measuring student and school performance in upcoming school years. It is important to understand the implications for accountability systems for the upcoming school year. There could be longer term implications for accountability systems in future school years too. Although SEAs will likely focus on the short-term implications of COVID-19 on their accountability systems, the webinar presents an opportunity to reflect on long-term goals for these systems more broadly. It also can help SEAs and other stakeholders understand how measures of accountability can best inform education policy and school decisions in their states.
