The Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP) has five accountability indicators for determining accreditation status of Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs). ASEP Accountability Indicator 2 is principal appraisal of the preparation of first-year teachers, which is measured by a TEA Principal Survey. TEA asked REL Southwest to provide consultation on how to analyze the survey data and interpret the findings considering the intended use of the survey in the ASEP. In November 2019, REL Southwest met with TEA partners to discuss research questions and present details about how to conduct analyses using multi-level modeling. REL Southwest then held a series of weekly check-in meetings with the TEA team to discuss their progress conducting their analyses. In a final coaching session, REL Southwest reviewed TEA's analyses and discussed the dissemination of the findings.
