The National Center for Education Research (NCER) and the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) are hosting a series of virtual listening and learning sessions on broadening participation in our research grant programs as well as diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in education research. - Leveraging LGBTQI+ Voices in Education Research: (6/29/2022) This session featured a panel discussion of the high-priority education research needs of the LGBTQI+ communities. The panel discussed how the field of education sciences can support educational equity, excellence, and economic opportunity for LGBTQI+ students as well as the career development of LGBTQI+ education researchers.
- Leveraging the Voices of Persons with Disabilities in Education Research (4/25/2022) This Listen and Learn session focused on researchers (and researchers in training) with disabilities. The purpose was for participants to share their experiences in becoming an education researcher and applying for and carrying out IES or other research grants as well as to offer suggestions for broadening participation at IES.
- Leveraging Native American and Alaska Native Voices in Education Research (03/07/2022) Hosted jointly with the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Native Americans and Strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities. This session featured a panel discussion of the high-priority education research needs of the Native American and Alaska Native communities.
- Black Voices in Education Research: Supporting Black Students across the Education Sciences (2/15/2022). Hosted jointly with the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans. In this panel discussion, IES-funded researchers shared how the field of education sciences can support educational equity, excellence, and economic opportunity for Black students from early childhood until their chosen career.
- Leveraging Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Voices in Education Research (1/18/22) — Hosted jointly with the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
- Leveraging Black Voices in Education Research (12/09/2021) — Hosted jointly with the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.
- Leveraging Hispanic Voices in Education Research (12/06/2021) — Hosted jointly with the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics.
- HBCU Week Listening Session: How Can the Institute of Education Sciences Help Support HBCU Applicants? — Hosted as part of HBCU Week by the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
