The WWC reviewed the research on Building Blocks, a mathematics curriculum, on preschool children’s mathematics achievement. Based on the research, the WWC found strong evidence that Building Blocks positively impacted mathematics achievement.
What's New at the WWC for September 2023
The WWC reviewed the research on Pre-K Mathematics, a supplemental mathematics program. Based on the research, the WWC found strong evidence that Pre-K Mathematics positively impacted student mathematics achievement. The WWC found uncertain effects on language, reading & literacy related, self-regulation, and social-emotional learning.
This WWC methodological report explores to what extent components of early literacy interventions can explain which interventions have positive effects on alphabetics outcomes. The components examined in this report have a limited role in explaining variation in intervention effects, but this report identified positive associations between intervention impacts on alphabetics outcomes and components related to using student assessment data to drive decisions and teaching social-emotional learning strategies.

The WWC reviewed the research on World of Words, a supplementary curriculum used to help young children in prekindergarten develop vocabulary knowledge, concept knowledge, and content knowledge in science. Based on the research, the WWC found strong evidence that World of Words positively impacted student language.
What's New at the WWC for June 2023
A new Intervention Report finds that Reading Recovery® may increase immediate literacy achievement, writing productivity, and receptive communication, as well as long-term writing convention skills of beginning readers. There were uncertain effects on long-term achievement in mathematics and general academics 10 years after the intervention.
What's New at the WWC for May 2023
A new Intervention Report finds that research on CW-FIT provides strong evidence for improved student behavior in K-10 grades. There were also positive impacts on teacher practice in PK-7 grades.
A new Intervention Report finds that research on Good Behavior Game provides strong evidence for improved student behavior across multiple grades. There were also positive impacts on teacher practice, writing conventions, and writing productivity, and uncertain effects for literacy, mathematics, interpersonal competencies, and school climate.

The Study Review Protocol, Version 5.0 is now available on the What Works Clearinghouse website. The Study Review Protocol guides all studies reviewed under the WWC Procedures and Standards Handbook, Version 5.0
The What Works Clearinghouse has launched online training and certification for the WWC Procedures and Standards Handbook, Version 5.0 for group design, advanced group design, and single case design standards.
What's New at the WWC for January 2023
A new Intervention Report finds that research on Reading Apprenticeship provides moderate evidence that the program improved science achievement and grade point averages for students in grade 9. There were uncertain impacts on achievement in life sciences, social studies, literacy, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and mathematics.
