Native American Education Research Alliance, REL Central

The Native American Education Research Alliance supports efforts to improve the academic achievement of Native American students and to develop interventions that serve Native American students. Stakeholder groups specifically targeted for assistance include researchers, policymakers, district and school administrators, community and school board members, teachers, and parents of Native American students.

Research Questions:

Research alliance members identified the following research questions as areas of interest. REL Central is helping alliance members explore these questions by sharing existing resources or research findings related to the questions through webinars and technical support, or through research projects.

  • What are some practices for increasing academic achievement among Native American K–12 and postsecondary students?
  • What are some strategies in vocabulary instruction and English language acquisition for working with Native American students?
  • What are some useful data-based decisionmaking and disaggregation strategies for policymakers and educators who work with Native American students?
  • What factors affect the achievement of Native American students living in rural and urban areas?
  • How can teachers working in isolated rural areas with large Native American populations be trained and supported in ways that promote culturally inclusive classrooms and support teacher retention?
