Using Data to Promote Educator Recruitment and Retention in Alaska

REL Northwest held a virtual training event on February 4, 2020, for school, district, and state education agency staff members focused on identifying and using teacher recruitment and retention data to better understand and address those issues in local contexts. The training started with a presentation of the findings from the REL Northwest 2019 study, Educator Retention and Turnover Under the Midnight Sun: Examining Trends and Relationships in Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent Movement in Alaska. Next, we introduced participants to a problem of practice protocol that they employed to address a sample problem on this topic.
The materials from this training are provided below. REL Northwest partnered with the Alaska Staff Development Network to identify the topic for this training and develop these materials. As such, they reflect educator priorities and are compatible with the Network's ongoing efforts to increase the capacity of educators to understand and address educator turnover challenges in the state.
