Implementing High-Quality Performance Assessments in Science

High-quality performance assessments challenge students to apply complex knowledge and skills to construct an answer, produce a product, or perform an activity. The Virginia Department of Education has released guidance on quality criteria for performance assessment and science educators in local Virginia divisions have expressed a need for support on using these criteria to assess, enhance, and implement performance assessments in their classrooms. REL AP is providing coaching to educators from several divisions on using evidence-based strategies for performance assessment and sharing lessons learned from this coaching activity in a series of training webinars available for educators across Virginia and nationwide.
