Montana

State of Montana

Montana has approximately 145,000 students enrolled in 824 public elementary and secondary schools. Even though Montana has the second lowest student population in the region, it has the highest number of school districts, with slightly more than 400. Only 16 percent of those districts are in cities and towns, while approximately 340 are in rural locales (and more than 250 are remote).

More than 11 percent of the students are American Indian, which is among the highest rates in the nation. Montana's graduation rate of 86 percent is also among the highest in the nation.
