Guests answer questions about lessons they have learned for effectively engaging students in online learning, especially when relationships with their teachers have not been established, increasing student ownership of learning, and cultivating intrinsic motivation in a remote space.

With personalized learning taking a prominent position in North Carolina's ESSA plan, many schools and school districts across the state are exploring the possibility of implementing personalized learning initiatives. In February, 2018, REL Southeast convened a group of more than 40 educators, administrators, and policy makers from across North Carolina to discuss the benefits and challenges of transitioning to a personalized learning model. Teaching writing effectively to elementary and secondary students is imperative to helping them improve writing skills, which in turn helps students to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom. Effective writing is a vital component of literacy development and provides students a means of communicating their thoughts and ideas with others clearly. Writing also provides students with the skills to analyze texts and other information to clarify their own thoughts. Despite increased investments in interventions to support school readiness for children, large achievement gaps exist across income groups at school entry. Research and theory support the need to conceptualize school readiness as more than just children’s readiness for school. Multiple aspects of readiness such as ready children, ready families, ready schools and ready communities should also be included.This video includes information pertaining to school readiness as a whole, as well as the ready child and the ready school, both critical components of school readiness.
