REL Southwest Evidence-Based Research and Resources for English Learners

This interactive session at the La Cosecha Dual Language Conference will feature a recent REL Southwest study, Initial Spanish Proficiency and English Language Development Among Spanish-Speaking English Learner Students in New Mexico. This study examined the relationship between the development of Spanish and English proficiency for English learner students in New Mexico.

Participants will

  • Watch a short video highlighting the study findings.
  • Engage in a group activity exploring how districts, teachers, and parents can apply the findings. 
  • Learn about the Southwest English Learners Research Partnership, which is led by the New Mexico Public Education Department and REL Southwest.
  • Receive a brief overview of related resources and research on English learner students in New Mexico and Texas, published through REL Southwest and the U.S. Department of Education.
