Join REL Southwest for a free webinar on adapting instruction for English learner students in a distance learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this interactive webinar, Rachel Garrett, Ph.D., senior researcher at REL Southwest, will provide an overview of promising practices and resources to support remote instruction of English learner (EL) students. Afterward, Brenda Arellano, Ph.D., senior researcher at REL Southwest, will facilitate a question-and-answer session with EL teachers and specialists. The EL practitioners will discuss ways they have leveraged strategies and resources to engage EL students in remote instruction. In addition, they will explain how they have collaborated with colleagues remotely and offer ways that local education agencies can support and build the capacity of EL teachers during this time.
Participants will:
- Increase their understanding of how to adapt instructional supports for EL students in a distance learning environment.
- Increase their understanding of resources and strategies available to support EL students who are receiving instruction through distance learning.
- Become aware of ways in which English as a Second Language teachers can collaborate with content-area teachers in a distance learning environment.
- Consider insights, ideas, and implications for implementing EL support strategies in different distance learning settings.
