Preventing and Responding to Student Suicide: Promising Strategies for Schools

Date: September 10, 2015
Location: Salt Lake City, UT

In 2013, suicide was the leading cause of death among Utah youth ages 10-17. Schools are in an important position to recognize and respond to suicide risk, as well as create healthy environments that support student academic success and overall wellness.

This free one-day conference from REL West, in collaboration with the Utah State Office of Education (USOE), brought together school and district staff to learn about and discuss the prevalence of youth suicide and mental health issues in the state of Utah, risk and protective factors to consider in designing school prevention and intervention efforts, and how to respond to instances of suicide in school communities.
