Exploring Design and Implementation Strategies for Technology-Mediated Professional Learning for Teachers in Support of Embedded Formative Assessment

Date: November 4, 2017
Location: Phoenix, AZ

This two-day event was co-sponsored by the Arizona Department of Education and the Educator Effectiveness Alliance at REL West. The overall focus of the full two-day conference was on expanding the implementation of embedded formative assessment in Arizona’s classrooms. Specifically, the workshop presented by REL West was designed to strengthen Arizona administrators’ understanding of the design and implementation of blended (online video/in-person) professional learning on this topic. By collaborating with the REL West EE Alliance leaders, the ADE officials involved were subsequently able to guide other school and district leaders around similarly innovative professional learning approaches in 2018 and beyond.

Audience

The audience for this event included Arizona administrators responsible for designing professional development opportunities for teachers in their schools or districts, with recruitment facilitated by the Arizona Department of Education and the Association of Arizona School Administrators. Role groups attending included assistant superintendents, professional development coordinators, directors of curriculum and instruction and/or technology, principals, coaches, and other teacher leaders. Approximately 100 educators were at the conference.
