Research on California State University's Expository Reading and Writing Course

The Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC), created by the California State University Chancellor's Office, is a grade 12 English course designed to better prepare California students for college-level English coursework by engaging them in in-depth study of expository, analytical, and argumentative reading and writing. To inform ongoing revisions to the course, REL West is analyzing data about the characteristics of schools that are offering the course, the characteristics of students enrolled in the course, and teacher workload. This analysis will assist the ERWC development team in improving the delivery of the curriculum and tailoring the course to best meet the needs of students who enroll.
