Supporting a Chronic Absence Network

Utah educators understand that chronic absence adversely impacts learning, achievement, and likelihood of graduation. In response to this persistent problem, the United Way of Salt Lake City, with support from REL West, the Utah State Board of Education, and several other state, local, and community-based agencies, has established a Collaborative Action Network (CAN). The primary goal of the CAN is to build on and expand existing efforts to reduce chronic absence in schools and districts in the Salt Lake region. Through sustained coaching, REL West is supporting the CAN members to use data and implementation evidence to adopt strategies to reduce chronic absence, leverage cross-sector knowledge and skills, and learn from each other over time.
